SEO – The art of getting ranked high in the search engines. SEO along with the right website design will make buyers more amiable to staying on your site and seeing what you’ve got.

Our Website Analysis Report will help you determine if your site is SEO ready.

Here are some tips to see for yourself if your site has what it takes to be a smash online and can compete with the big boys.

1.	Does Google know you even exist? They don’t just put any site online. I know it might seem that why sometimes when you do a search and get millions of results, but believe it or not, while Google is constantly adding sites, they are also excluding sites and even dumping sites from their listing. To determine this type this before the http:// part: site: (i.e. site:http://ny.rankaboveothers.com)
2.	Are some of your site’s pages listed, but not all of them or most of them? The more pages you have listed on Google, the better. This means you have to make sure every page you want listed is optimized to their liking. Google’s spiders search each page of a site and include and exclude according to their pre-set algorithm standards. So each page is either included or excluded individually.
3.	Of course in order to check your site with the above method each page on your site must have a unique Title. Yes the Title of the page does count. So just having something like “Rank Above Others” as the title on each page will not do your site any justice. As a side note, make sure your site’s title is no more than 65 characters long.
4.	Does your site have a Meta description? This is what Google and other search engines use to give people a little preview of what they will find on your site. It is also important for SEO. As with the page titles, each page needs to have its own Meta description. Try not to go over 155 characters on this and use a few of your keywords in the description. Keywords are the words people use to look for sites like yours.
5.	What is your site’s ranking? This also goes by your keywords. To check just go into Google Search and put your keyword in the search bar. If your keywords are more than one, (i.e. affordable website design) type it in quotes as such: “affordable website design”. If the results show you are not on the first page of Google, you have some work that needs to be done.
6.	Pictures on your site is great to have, but not with respect to SEO. The Search Engine spiders don’t know a picture from a fly on the world unless you use what is known as an “alt tag”. So give your picture a name and try to use one of your keywords in it. By the way, tags are in the HTML coding of your site, so you won’t see it without looking at the coding directly. Google spiders see it though, and that is what is important. There are still a few people who do not have computers that even show pictures. In the absence of them seeing a picture, the “alt” name will appear. This will ease some of the frustration people get when they see blank squares on a web page. You don’t want a frustrated, (and then angry) website visitor.
7.	Now we come to the subject of backlinks. This is how many other sites link back to yours. Backlinks are derived when others link to your site or you, yourself use blogs, forums, social media, bookmarking sites, etc. to link back to your site. The more backlinks to your site, the more Google will think you are important. So they will take the backlinks to your site into consideration when listing your site. You can simply check this by typing into the search window inks: before the http:// part. (i.e. links:http://ny.rankaboveothers.com).
8.	If your site is a Blog, make sure the comments on it are not spam. Spam will bring your site down, (and perhaps out). Comments should be relevant to your site. Many people, and in fact many automated programs, will simply to go as many sites as possible and leave backlinks to their own site in the comment. Even if the backlink does not show up in your comment, the link given in the comment form will be there – and counted. Also make sure the comments, backlinks and even the commenter’s name is not X-rated related.
9.	Are the links on your page up-to-date? Sites come and go. Site pages come and go, and you end up with pages on your website linked to nothingness. Your visitors end up going to error pages. Google will know this instantly and down you go in the rankings. Some Search sites will not allow your site to even be listed if not all your links gets people to an actual page someplace.

This should keep you busy for a little while. I suggest you let us do a website analysis of your site so you can get more tips and find out what is actually going on with your site as compared to your competition’s site. Just fill out the form at http://ny.rankaboveothers.com/free-analysis/ and a report will be sent to you. It’s free and you will be under no obligation.

Google has many criteria for them to decide where to place you in their search engine. An important aspect is your site design. Of course they do not look at every site someone puts up everyday and then go back to it every time the site is updated. They have millions and millions of sites to keep track of.

They do it by using what is known as spiders and algorithms. The spider goes out automatically to sites it sees links to. Then it looks over the site and determines how original the content is, how up-to-date the links are, and how many other people link to the site from other sites. The more backlinks you have to your site, the more it determines how much others like your site. The spider is also able to determine how original the content is and how many visitors you get to your site each day.

It is therefore important that people who visit your site find it pleasing to their eye and then recommend it to others either verbally or by linking back to it from other sites.

Rank Above Others – New York understands this and has the creativity to make your site stand out among its many competitors. Click on the free eBook pictured on the left for more tips and tricks to get your website noticed by the search engines.
